The Hormonal Trap: Cortisol vs. Testosterone

Sometimes people aren't just lazy; their hormones are chemically forcing them to fail.

Cortisol and the "Dad Bod"
Chronic stress from a demanding career or life doesn't just make you tired; it triggers your hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis to constantly pump out Cortisol (the stress hormone).
When our ancestors faced acute stress (like running from a predator), cortisol spiked to give them energy, then returned to baseline. Today, you sit at a desk, stressed about a mortgage, keeping cortisol chronically elevated.
The body interprets chronic stress as a signal that famine or danger is imminent, so it goes into preservation mode.
Clinical research shows that visceral adipose tissue (belly fat) has up to four times as many glucocorticoid (cortisol) receptors as other fat depots. Eventually, if those fat cells become constantly bombarded, they undergo hypertrophy (they get too big) and become "full." They stop listening to the insulin signal. This is Insulin Resistance.
